Newly hired bus drivers for the Fujikyu Group first undergo a training camp at the Fujikyu Railway headquarters to learn about laws and regulations related to safe driving, vehicle knowledge, basic driving techniques, and customer service (CS) such as customer service and onboard announcements. This allows them to acquire the knowledge, skills, and sense of responsibility necessary to be a Fujikyu Group bus driver.

2入社1年未満乗務員教育
After initial training for newly hired drivers, they undergo technical training, sales training, and route training at their respective workplaces for one to two months to become independent as professional bus drivers. For the first year after joining the company, there is a follow-up training period, with instructors providing on-the-job training by accompanying drivers in increments of one week, one month, three months, six months, and one year, as well as classroom training on safety, to further improve their skills. At the same time, the mental well-being of drivers is also supported through interviews with operations managers and management executives.

Drivers who have joined the company and have been with us for three years will undergo training to review the basics and re-examine their own driving habits.

Once a month, we conduct group training for all crew members who were involved in an accident during that month. We strive to prevent recurrence by conducting accident cause analysis and practical training.

We provide training for dispatch managers, who are crucial to on-site driver training. Through participation in various seminars and mutual workplace inspections among groups, we strive to improve the knowledge and leadership skills of dispatch managers by broadening their understanding of safety improvements, thereby raising awareness and preventing accidents throughout the workplace.

You will learn about vehicle characteristics and driving techniques by utilizing the excellent facilities and extensive curriculum of the Central Safe Driving Training Center in Hitachinaka City, Ibaraki Prefecture.

We provide training for newly hired drivers on winter driving techniques and how to install snow chains. As a company based in Yamanashi Prefecture, which experiences heavy snowfall, we cultivate drivers who are exceptionally careful when driving on snowy roads.

In cooperation with local governments and the police, we conduct crime prevention and disaster preparedness drills, such as bus hijacking drills. We aim to cultivate crisis response capabilities that enable calm and appropriate responses even in the worst-case scenarios.

In July 2016, our company introduced a dedicated training vehicle for bus drivers, equipped with a "driving data collection system," to improve safety in our bus operations.
The "training vehicle" has the following functions:
- "Measurement of sudden acceleration and sudden deceleration"...Measures the impact when pressing the accelerator or braking.
- "Measurement of sway during right and left turns"... Measuring factors such as speed and centrifugal force caused by steering wheel operation.
- "Eye-tracking"... Measuring eye movement using a device that visualizes where a person is looking.
- "Vehicle distance measurement"...Measures the distance to vehicles in front and to the side using an infrared sensor.
- "Measurement of brake operation"... Measuring the timing and force of braking in various situations.
- "Fuel efficiency measurement"...Measures how well you are practicing eco-driving.
These state-of-the-art devices collect data while the bus is in motion, allowing us to understand the driving characteristics of each bus driver and provide them with more detailed and accurate, evidence-based safe driving instruction. This technology is utilized for driver training across all Fujikyu Group bus companies.
Our company has adopted "Safety takes precedence over everything (ensuring 120% safety)" as its basic policy, and has been working to enhance safety education for bus drivers and introduce safety equipment such as collision mitigation brakes and drive recorders to our vehicles. By introducing this "training vehicle" in conjunction with our previous efforts, we aim to create synergistic effects and further improve the safety of our bus operations.
Vehicle safety equipment
Our company aims to improve safety by simultaneously introducing the latest safety equipment and enhancing driver training, thereby increasing the effectiveness of training.
dashcam
The system continuously records images and audio while driving, which is used to collect data on near misses, understand the circumstances of accidents, and analyze them to prevent recurrence.
Digital tachograph
We collect data on bus operation time, speed, distance, etc. By displaying the results for each item with scores and graphs, we can understand the characteristics of each driver's driving on a given day and provide appropriate advice and guidance.
Collision mitigation braking system
While driving, millimeter-wave radar detects and analyzes slow-moving vehicles ahead, and if there is a risk of a rear-end collision, it applies full braking at an early stage to help avoid the collision. This reduces the speed at the time of collision and mitigates the damage.
Collision avoidance warning system (Mobileye)
A camera mounted on the vehicle's windshield detects potential collision risks, such as the distance to the vehicle ahead, erratic driving, or proximity to pedestrians, and alerts the driver with an audible warning and an icon display.
Anti-skid device
To prevent lane departures and rollovers on curves, the system supports the driver's evasive maneuvers through warning sounds, engine output control, and brake activation.
Warning voice system
This "multi-voice guide" provides safety reminders to the crew in various situations, such as when the handbrake is applied when stopped, when the trunk is not closed, and precautions to take when reversing or driving.

Crew member health management
Crew members to undergo "brain checkups"
We require all crew members aged 50 and over, and all crew members aged 40 and over who work night shifts, to undergo health checkups using MRI machines of 1.5 Tesla or higher. These checkups allow for the early detection of brain diseases such as aneurysms and strokes, thereby preventing serious accidents.
Conducting screening tests for sleep apnea syndrome (SAS)
Sleep apnea syndrome is one of the causes of daytime sleepiness and can potentially lead to serious accidents. For this reason, our company requires all crew members to undergo this test and monitor their progress and promote treatment based on the diagnosis to ensure safety management.
Other health management
At our company, we monitor employees' health daily by measuring their temperature and blood pressure upon arrival at work. We also provide comprehensive health consultations by our industrial physician and individual guidance based on health checkups, ensuring meticulous management.
Barrier-free
As the bus user base ages, we are actively working to make our buses more user-friendly by installing wheelchair ramps, lowering the floor level, and adding handrails.
*Regarding the use of strollers by customers
Previously, strollers had to be folded before boarding, but now you can board without folding them.
However, please note that you will need to fold it before use in the following cases.
- If a wheelchair user is using the facility
- If the train is crowded
How to ride lesson
Due to the declining birthrate and the reduction in bus routes, we conduct bus riding classes for elementary school and kindergarten children who have fewer opportunities to use buses. These classes cover basic bus riding etiquette, manners on board, and accident prevention.
In the future, we will also hold these events for senior citizens, providing advice on safe bus travel and striving to prevent accidents.
We conduct this program at approximately 100 schools annually.
Safety Guide
A safety information booklet is placed in the vehicle's pocket. For your safety, it provides clear instructions in three languages: Japanese, English, and Chinese, regarding the importance of wearing your seatbelt and emergency procedures.
Accident-free award
Based on the principle that "safety takes precedence over everything," we award drivers who have achieved accident-free driving as role models for our transportation business. This is considered our most valuable award, and at the ceremony, the president presents a certificate, a record medal, and a commemorative gift to honor the achievement. We even have a driver who has achieved an accident-free record of 3 million kilometers (approximately 75 times around the Earth).
Vehicle maintenance
Our group company, Fujikyu Auto Service Co., Ltd., which operates an automobile maintenance business, has established a unified maintenance system that includes conducting regular inspections and responding quickly to malfunctions, thereby striving for safe daily operation in terms of vehicle maintenance.
Maintenance workshops are located at each sales office, and the workshop in Kawaguchi Town, in particular, was relocated and rebuilt in April 2016 and is equipped with the latest facilities.
